Dr Robert has been working with the women’s Olympic Canadian handball team from 1990 to 2002. She was performing blood checks and physicals, as well as caring for traumatic and overuse injuries.
She traveled many times with the team, including to the World Championships and the Pan Am Games. Dr. Robert’s availability, devotion and efficacy were part of the success of the team. Her fast and focused interventions allowed the players to practice this “rough” sport for many years, without compromising their health even at the end of their careers. She was always there to provide help for physical and psychological concerns of the team.
I also had the opportunity to work with Dr. Ghislaine Robert from 1987 to 2002 at the medical clinic of the Olympic Training Center of Montréal (Centre Claude-Robillard). She was treating and consulting athletes from all levels and all sports. Having been an Olympic athlete myself and being responsible for the medical program of the Canadian Association of Olympic Handball, I was really impressed by the quality of her work and her professionalism.
I’m glad to see that she is achieving new goals in the US, but I must admit that we miss her a lot over here. I wish her all the best and I am confident that the American athletes will recognize her expertise.
